I was not at all interested in football league till I had to
saw a match at my cousin’s residence because we (all cousins) were sitting in a
TV lounge and I had no option but to sit there and be a part of stupid crowd
praising Ronaldo and his game. Since my youngest cousins were interested
in football. I kept myself away from them and enjoyed other sports like
cricket, badminton and swimming.
“It’s always
good to be informed rather than to stay ignorant”. It’s my quote of life. I
used to hear a lot about Ronaldo a long time ago and now days I am
hearing a lot about Messi. The common thing I knew about both of them
was that they were both football players.
I am going
to compare both players on some criteria given below that would prove who is
best among both of them.
1.
Foot skills; Ronaldo Versus Messi
Ronaldo is right footed against Messi
who is left-footed. Messi usually occupies right side of attack but has
featured more centrally with the passage of time. Messi is fantastic in one-on-ones. He
is capable of delicate dink over an active advancing goal keeper and warped
effort into the corner-a pile driver. It’s really hard to find fault in his
play. Messi prefers to play with intelligent people rather than whites
or Brauns. Ronaldo on the other hand prefers to play with powerful
players. He is adapting at finishing on his weaker sides, however his goals
speaks for itself.
2.
Head skills; Ronaldo Versus Messi
In 2009, Messi scored
the second goal against Manchester United in the Champions league final with
his head. However most of his victories came after his left foot.
In comparison to Messi,
Ronaldo sounds more brave and strong. He scores more goals with his head
without being afraid of where it hurts. Ronaldo is more effective in air
at 1.85 meters than Messi, who stands at 1.65 meters. More than that Ronaldo
applies more power to his headers and scores higher in this category.
3.
Free Kicks; Ronaldo Versus Messi
Superb set-pieces
that crook opposing goal keepers it’s Messi. He is capable of giving
free kicks easily depending on his fitness than force. However, he lacks the
variation that Ronaldo holds.
Ronaldo on the other hand, gives beautiful
diverging free-kicks and curling free-kicks also. He uses the technique of
striking the ball on the tap to get more movement and power. This technique was
revealed by Ronaldo when he played for Manchester United.
4.
Dribbling and Control; Ronaldo Versus
Messi
One of the
qualities that make Messi superior from other players is his dribbling
skills and there is no one better in this world at it and beating players
through this technique. It’s not his speed but his sublime technique, balance
and quick feet. He believes on his natural ability to take him past his man.
Whereas, Ronaldo relies on his step-over skill that beats his opponents
again and again. He poses an extra-ordinary control but he focus more on his
pace to take him past players at play.
5.
Skills and techniques; Ronaldo Versus
Messi
When it comes to Messi, it seems like football has
been glued to his feet as he makes his way out of tough situations and finds
his players when he felt that he is surrounded by opponents. One similar thing
that Messi and Ronaldo shares is that both uses back to great
effect and liking for fastening the ball over the opponent for taking it to
other side.
It is always an entertainment when Ronaldo is seen
looking for his team mates and when he fails to do so he uses his back heals
and produce a style over substance as he is blessed with natural ability and on
a song he is a joy to watch but unfortunately has more ineffectual matches than
Messi. He is a more of a showman and can take his breath away with his
collection of stopovers and flicks.
6.
Team Play; Ronaldo Versus Messi
Messi works best with Xavi Hernandez and
Andres Iniesta. He has beautiful chemistry with these players and there are
proves that indicated that he does not work hard or combines well with his team
mates at Barcelona. However, he is more successful at club than at
international level. Whereas, Ronaldo is known to shoot from absurd
angles and he tries to make a difference on his own when his team mates are
placed on better angles. He often tries to score when there is superior
opportunities at his left or right. He seems selfish and obsessed and has a
tendency to show his frustration and bad temper towards his team mates.
7.
Physical powers; Ronaldo Versus Messi
Messi is not as versatile in physical
powers and can be knocked off the ball by one or more imposing opponents but he
is capable of holding his one-on-ones and makes foul when defending his
opponents. Whereas, Ronaldo is a big hit and claimed to do 1000 pres-up
per day. And it seems like he maintains his washboard stomach. He is constant
source of threat to his opponents as he maintains unquestionable fitness and
physical well-being as he shows professionalism in looking after himself.
